The Vegan Protein Myth

Sunny of peta2 tackles the vegan/protein myth. It’s virtually impossible to be protein deficient if you’re consuming enough calories… every whole food contains protein! So the next time someone asks you, “But where do you get your protein?”, blast them away with your plant-based knowledge, leaving them no excuse to not go vegan. Read More: http://bit.ly/bALKxs

The Cliff Bar and Chili you displayed contain soy protein isolate as a primary ingredient, which is cancer-causing. Would not recommend consuming this.

Typical ignorant vegan, those are not bio-available proteins.  Those are also not great sources of protein, most of them are only composed of about 3% protein, the rest are carbs.  For you to get the high amount of protein that humans need (especially men), you would have to consume a lot, and that's not feasible, wise, and most definitely not healthy.  Furthermore, they don't contain all BCAA's, so the protein is not being absorbed into your body.  As for those "herbivores", more ignorant vegan BS!  Most herbivores (don't know which one's you're referring too, be specific) get big, because their bodies metabolize carbs and sugars into proteins, our body can not do that.  Fuck!  Vegans are so dumb, seriously.  And to top it off, like I'm going to listen to someone with clown makeup and who says "peeps" and "foolio".  And that protein in that vegan chili and energy bar comes from soy, men can't eat soy protein.  Of course your ignorant vegan ass wouldn't know that.

I just eat 3000 calories a day of whole foods and get anywhere from 60-110g of protein a day. Been weight lifting for 4 months and building muscle and increasing my lifts every week. No meat/eggs/milk required. Great vid.

No plant can grow without protein or without calcium, every plant needs these to survive. If a person gets 3 grams of protein for ever 100 calories they would get 60 grams of protein with 2000 calories and would usually average about 500 to 600mg of calcium. No need to eat dairy products or any other animal product. I don't even eat any soy products at all, I load up on protein by eating lentils, beans, peas, greens, broccoli and so on. Vegan for 20 years, now 40 and feeling great.

As long as you eat a variety of foods, you can get all your essential amino acids. Its just not as easy because they are in different things. But I think its better to have variety in your diet in general instead of relying on just meat to get your nutrients, how boring! 😛

I agree it can be hard to eat all natural when there's so many options at the grocery stores that are processed or modified. However, it is very easy to be vegan! I was surprised at how easy it is. But being vegan doesn't always mean healthy 😛 It is very easy to be a fat vegan LOL.. For example, oreos are vegan. I used to love chicken nuggets and alfredo noodles and anything with cheese but I find personally those cravings go away when you stop eating them.

I like vegetables and fruits. I also like bacon and eggs. I guess I'm just the omnivore I evolved to be.

I used to be badly badly addicted to cheese…any kind of cheese. I thought I could never give it up even though I wanted to very much…I struggled for years to let go of this addiction. You know what made me stop overnight? A guy called DR Michael Greger…..if you have not seen it yet check out one of his videos called "Uprooting the Leading Causes of Death" .. I am now a vegan for quite some time.

You can't just blindly jump on protein. You need to make sure you're getting a full amino acid profile or else it defeats the purpose. I'm not saying you can't do that with plant sources, but theres a little more to it than just looking for the magic p-word.

Calcium- Soy Milk, Protein Tofu, Spinach, only thing is i become Anemic during the summer so i use A Swisse Mens Multivitamin containing Iron, but during the winter i am fine, I only eat certain things through out certain seasons funny how that works. I consider myself Vegetarian though as to me VEGAN is more then a diet, it extends to clothing fair-trade shoes etc. And for People who think Vegetarian or Vegan is Unhealthy, Sir Paul McCartney, And WWE Star Great Kali proof of good health.

your right vegans can get enough protein if they eat the right things. thanks to the wonders of modern shipping of produce all around the world. but it is a simple fact that proteins found in vegetables are missing 1 or more essential amino acids that humans require but healthy veganism is only possible in the western world due to modern shipping methods of produce so the flip side is the huge carbon foot print it creates at least you didn't say veganism was ethical as that is a bit of a myth

Yes! there are people who don't get enough protein or the correct combinations of! This is way there fare complete and incomplete protein strands. If you you have as hurt muscle and you don't have enough glutamine, guess what? I came looking for facts and got some chick pussing her life style "I"m ok, so it's got to be ok".

I'm an on and off vegan. But having biology as a major for college, I know for a fact that humans are omnivorous. Plus all that packaged vegan food stuff has vitamins and minerals and amino acids added to them to give them more nutritional value. Humans need more than just basic protein, a certain protein, B-12. Unlike elephants, cows and all other herbivores we are not built to digest cellulose. Our intestines are not long enough, our stomach acid can't properly digest cellulose (corn for ex.).

Not really, if u rinse them of extra salt and sugar they are okay. Maybe not as good as normally cooked beans but unlike fruits and veggies that loose most of the nutrition beans retain them even when canned.

B12 is the only thing that not only Vegans, but everyone in the world has to worry about. It's very poorly absorbed and only from a supplement most people can get enough. Else you need to eat organic vegetables grown in real soil that is not contaminated with pesticides.
